any excuse for cake!
i'm not sure when this happened, all i know is it happened way too fast. baby girl is growing up so, so quickly. she has been obsessed over turning 4 and a 1/2 for the past several months. i'm not sure what happens at 4 1/2, but emily could. not. wait! she even asked me what kind of party she would have. "for your 5th birthday? gosh, that's not for a long time. we can decide when it gets closer." em: "
no, mommy. for my 4 and a 1/2 birthday!" me: "hmm, you don't usually have parties for half birthdays, button." em: "
okay then. how about a cake?!" me: "of course you can have a cake." i know. she is THAT cute almost all the time.
since i haven't done my monthly emmy-ism post since she was 4, here are some things i don't want to forget about the past 6 months. she doesn't do several of these anymore, but i wanted to put them on here for posterity.
for a while, em loved to tell you "toldja!" what can i say? she enjoys being right, just like her momma.
...so much so that now she will make a statement and then say, "wight?" often times it is when she wants to get away with something. "you said i could have a piece of candy if i ate 4 bites of dinner, wight?"
she also likes to agree with me, in the sweetest way. "mommy, what's your favorite color on this drawing?" "pink." "mine, too."
each night, she asks for 3 things- dolly (an ugly little stuffed doll she found in my donation pile. she walked by it, glanced down, saw it, grabbed it, and kept walking. it was so funny), fuzzy (a blanket i had made for her as an infant; it must always be fuzzy/pink-side down), and pilates shirt (the grey one). always pilates shirt.
there are a few words that she still says incorrectly, and i hardly ever correct her b/c i can't stand for there to be no "baby" left in her. some of these are: are my (instead of am i?), grav (grab), gwauge (garage), meewk (milk), vench (bench), cleash (leash), and muffets (muppets). she also says bonk instead of bump, which i love. "i just bonked my head on that corner."
she still has lots of nicknames. here are some that have stuck- button, stinky, goose, princess (daddy's, of course), pooter mcstinky (she thinks this one is hilarious), and baby girl.
sometimes she will come up and give me a big hug and say, "you are my sweetest (or best) mommy!" i melt everytime.
several months ago (think back in feb.), i came home from a work convention with some goodies they were handing out. "thank you, mommy! you're the best mommy! you always think of me and get me stuff."
she asked me once, "what happens when your heart melts?" i couldn't think of anything clever.
"mommy, i love you so much you can't even believe it!"
she has different code words/phrases. she told me one night, "when i say 'i loooooooooooovvve you', that means to outer space (very far). but when i say 'i love you', that means all the way to god (so, so far)!"
she is very into telling secrets. most of the time the secrets are silly and aren't really secrets. except for this one that she told me last night, "mommy, daddy told me that you are really turning 34. not 32."
wormies. these are several things. her favorite being when you stick your finger in her neck and wiggle it around. she laughs and laughs. those are wormies. but she also calls udon soup wormie soup. kinda gross, but it's still her favorite soup.
we took my nephew dylan to the houston rodeo so he could see china anne mcclain (or whatever her name is) and big time rush. he was so excited, and em was thrilled to have her cousin with her. "it's even better than having pilates shirt!" now THAT is major!
she has magic eyes and ears so she can see and hear "really, really good."
TMI warning. she still has problems going number 2. the problem being that she HATES to go. she will hold it for days. DAYS. in the meantime, there's lots of tooting going on at our house. and poor girl will look like she is just squeezing those cheeks together with all her might. when d or i hear the toots, we immediately tell her to go sit on the toilet. and so she began to "hide" them. that is, when she'd toot, she would either say that it was her foot/mouth/tanner or she'd try to cover them up by making "pop, pop, pop" sounds with her mouth. it's hilarious, trust me. sometimes she'll offer, "don't worry, that wasn't tooting. that was just my meewk (milk, in her sippy cup)."
"quarter potties are usually turquoise, not blue." (aka porta potties)
she has fits often when she's tired. seeing as she has skipped her regular nap since summer started, we have fits quite often in the evenings. we've been working on calming down and taking 3 deep breaths (yoga, anyone?). she is a good sport and tries, but i still smile because she's doing in between her sobs. one night, she was just unconsolable. so i tried to send her to her room until she calmed down. this was her response (or as best she could get out between sobs), "you're not being nice to me, mommy!"
and as a progression from that, she'll now tell me, "i don't like what you did, mommy!" all of this makes me laugh.
when she throws her fits, we still refer to her as katie fussikins.
not sure where this came from, school i'd imagine, but she'll talk like a robot and announce this, "i. am. a. ro-bot. i have none eyes (or ears, mouth, whatever it may be)." she is really good at imitating things/people, actually.
she loves watching the PBS show "wild kratts." other favorites are jake and the neverland pirates (which she watches in the mornings), good luck charlie, calliou (the worst), phineous and ferb, austin and ally, and whatever other big kid show is on the disney channel.
"let me give you a hint."
em loves music and singing. her favorite songs are i haven't seen you in ages (aka dancing away with my heart), call me maybe (wow, if i never hear that song again...), and want you back. she knows so many of the top 40 hits. i am constantly surprised when i hear her sing along. not to mention that most of the songs have already been choreographed, too.
she is getting big! still hovering at 40 lbs, but that is a lot for this momma to carry. when i hold her, she will immediately start slipping and she'll ask me, "can you bounce me higher?", meaning can i put her higher on my hip so she doesn't slide down. sometimes she will ask, "are my too heavy?" i think she's around 42 inches, too.
one day at school last spring, they had the betas run 1 lap around the track to wear them out. em got done and said, "i'm so tired, mommy. why did they make us do that?!" girl was not happy.
oy. she says "like" all the dang time. it drives me crazy.
and "OMG." she heard that at school. again, this annoys me a lot, too.
this is the story of easter, according to baby em, "two bad guys who wanted to do jesus's job nailed his hands and feet to a cross and he died. but THEN! three days later, he was alive! and that is why we celebrate easter."
"i love you more than most...more than infinity...you know how much you love me? well i love you even more than that."
things look "wild" to her, and she doesn't love that. e.g., she'll put little stickers on her toe nails. if one falls off, she has to take them all off because "it will look wild!" she usually describes hair and clothes this way.
she has wanted to wear her hair anyway but in her signature pony and bow this summer. i am so, so sad.
she had crazy day at camp last week and asked daddy to do her hair "in 2 ponies, but braid them. and then can you wrap them around like a bun?" haha, i wished donnie good luck with that.
"no" has 2 syllables and comes out more like "noah!"
my sister told her the story about when i was a child and a bird pooped on my head. she thought this was the funniest thing ever and called me "mommy gross head" for several days.
she likes crawfish, "but only the tail."
for months her prayers have included, "please let tanner stay with us for our whole life." this is her number one request always.
if she doesn't feel like talking to me before bed, she'll say, "i'm asleep."
if i ask her about her day in the middle of the day and she doesn't feel like answering, she'll say, "i will tell you at bedtime, mommy."
one of our favorite moments of each day is the morning, when em first wakes up. she will almost always say something random like, "remember when i was 2, and aaron wanted to ride my bike and i told him no, it was because he didn't have a helmet."
she and donnie butt heads a lot, especially at night. bedtime is when donnie really loses his patience and when em is usually so tired that you can count on her to be fussy. and yet, each night, donnie acts like this is brand new behavior. anyway, donnie will insist that he put on her pjs, brush her teeth, etc. and she will cry every. time. for mommy. still, donnie will refuse to allow me to step in because he thinks i'm trying to save the day. i'm told this is the scene in many households at night. (it's exhausting just thinking about it). anyway, em will often cry, "NO! mommy do it! i want mommy!" and donnie will ignore her. i write this as background because one night, i woke up to her whimpering. i listened to the monitor for a while and realized it was turning into tears, so i went to check on her. she was talking/crying in her sleep, "book. read the book. no, i want mommy to read it to me. mommy do it!" hahaha, she fights with him even in her sleep. guess that is something else we have in common :)
she also dreams about fun dip. when i asked her about it the next morning, she remembered crying in the middle of the night because, "i wanted that fun dip!"
i asked her what love meant. she told me, "love is when your heart smiles." so true.
"i have noidea." one word.
"mommy, this is hilarious. when i was sleeping, my underwear fell off." totally happened. she is super wiggly.
me to d: "he's so cute." em: "but i'm cuter."
everything is a competition these days. and she always has to win. she will change the rules after the fact. e.g., "so i winned because the second person is the winner." or, "are my taller than her? why not? but i'm 4 and a 1/2 and she isn't. so i'm taller." yes, that rationale makes complete sense...she must have gotten this trait from the boltons.
"if you lie, then god will take away christmas." i told her this (i know, how awful), but it works and she is scared. because i only tell her truths (ha), she totally believes me. she came home not thrilled one day and told me, "aaron said if you lie, you will go to jail. but i told him, 'nuh uh, if you lie, god will take away christmas.' so i was right."
one night, i asked if daddy already brushed her teeth. she said yes, but i asked d anyway. of course he said he had not. she got really quiet as i was getting her toothbrush ready and asked, "is god going to take away christmas now?" bless her heart.
she asked ba to cut her snack into triangles. ba made squares. em looked at me knowingly and said, "you know why ba did that? it's because she does not know...because her brain is not turned on today." haha.
she's been to several summer camps so far. zoo camp (her favorite. she got to feed a giraffe!), kidventure (where she carried a real snake around her neck and learned how to "free style" dance), princess camp, and theater camp.
"when i go poo at school, i don't wipe all the way so that you know i went. but at home i wipe all the way. okay?" um, not okay.
first, i am not pregnant. nor am i planning to become pregnant anytime soon. but sometimes em will still ask when we'll have a baby. "we have to have a baby sister." me: "what if it's a boy? can we send him back?" em: "no (as if that's crazy talk). god listens to everything, mommy. so he's going to make me a baby girl and put her in your tummy."
when we landed in the bahamas, some people on the plane started clapping. that made em excited and she exclaimed, "i'm going to have so much fun!!!" so the entire back of the plane heard, and they all laughed. it was so cute.
she loves pilates shirt. it is her lovey. she has never been attached to anything like she is attached to this. but she hated to wash it and would cry and cry each week as she put it in the washing machine. now she will request for it to get washed "so it can smell good." and i think because she dropped it or spilled something on it and didn't want to tell me.
we got a big girl booster as an extra and she has come up with so many excuses to ride in it. she loves it, because it uses the car's seatbelt instead of the carseat's 5 point harness. "mommy, today can we have a girls' day without daddy? and can we run errands and take beep beep?" she knows if daddy comes, we are taking his car, bevo, instead. he's not really allowed to drive my car because he's kind of careless and has way too much fun driving in sport mode. :)
whew, i'm finally through with my list. i realize no one has made it down to this point, but i had 6 months worth of emmy-isms and wanted to be sure i wrote them all down so i could remember them always. happy half birthday, baby girl!
