emily spent the 2 weeks leading up to mother's day making cards for me, finding things around the house to decorate and gift to me, and just loving me a little extra. the first thing she did sunday morning after she woke up was announce that she was going to go downstairs and get my gifts. she brought back a card (that said "to my beautiful wife." but she insisted on getting that because it had jewels on it. and a heart. and it was pink. she knows all my favorite things.) that she had decorated and a little nordstrom jewelry box. the box used to house all her little barbie shoes and accessories, but she had emptied it and put a tube of her favorite lipgloss in there for me. i don't know that i could love any gift more. she went through such great lengths to keep everything a secret from me. (i've yet to tell her how much i loathe surprises. at least i did. her little surprises are so sweet, though, it's hard to make a blanket statement like that now).
(and so i don't forget, emily also made me a precious necklace at school that had her fingerprint on it. it came with a sweet poem and a picture that she drew of me with earrings and all. hopefully i'll think to take a picture of it so i can post it here).
so onto my weekend! on saturday, i got to celebrate my beautiful friend monica and help welcome her baby boy, alexander. monica's friends threw the most perfect baby shower for her. it was beautiful!
pretty momma-to-be!
monica with her hostesses. hard to find a closer group of friends!
on sunday, we went to church. that's what em wanted to do on mother's day..."go to sunday school to see ms. marissa." i thought it would be nice to have brunch with my sister afterwards. little did i know there would be another gift waiting for me when i got to the restaurant. em rode with her auntie and cousin (mother's day with mom? nah!) while d and i followed. so when i got inside, my sweet, sweet girl ran up to me and declared, "this place is f*cked up!" uh, what? one look at my sister and i knew i was not mistaken and had to turn away so i could laugh. apparently, the babies think this means crowded. happy mother's day to me! (at night, em and i go over our favorite and least favorite moments of the day. i was trying to think of something for my least moment when she finished my sentence..."when i said that bad word." she really is a thoughtful girl to think that her saying that made me sad).
me and my (still) sweet girl.
i love the way aaron is looking at his momma here <3
my family. i love saying that. i do wish we had one with tanner, too, though.
and more of my family.
sadly, i did not get a picture of my own mother on mother's day. i did spend part of the day with her, but when my family gets together, it's chaos and pictures are usually the last thing on our minds! i do hope she knows how much i love her and how thankful i am of the example she has set for us. i am a good mother because of her. happy mother's day, everyone! i hope you all felt as loved as i did <3
