my baby boy

yesterday, tanner woke us up early because he kept scratching. he wouldn't let us look at him or touch him really, and growled and cried when we tried. once we finally wrestled him down, we noticed that he was covered in dime and nickel sized bumps, almost like hives. he was in so much pain and was so uncomfortable. the reaction was so severe that we were afraid his throat would close up. we found one of his allergy pills and gave it to him, then donnie rushed him to the vet. thankfully, they open really early so we avoided the ER. once there, you could see that the swelling was coming down, but the dr. gave him a shot to make it go down even quicker.

we don't know what caused the reaction, but on sat. this weekend, tanner had swallowed part of emily's toy. it was a little camera on a keyring. i started thinking the worse and thinking, "omg, what if his body starting digesting the coating and it was poisoning him?!" an x-ray was taken and sure enough, it was still in his belly. 2 days and it hadn't moved anywhere because it was too big to pass and he couldn't throw it up. that meant he was going to have go under and have it removed with a scope...which was enough to make me a nervous wreck. about an hour and a half later, we got a call that it didn't work and they were going to have to cut him open. i cried. (gosh, my co-workers have got to think i'm a mess. i have cried more in the last 6 months than i have in the last 6 1/2 years i've been here).

a few hours later, he came out of surgery and we got a good report. BUT, em's "little doggie" or "brother" didn't get to come home. he had to have an iv overnight, so we'll get to pick him up this afternoon. i can't wait. i have missed him so much. i kept looking for him around the house or going to check on him before remembering that he wasn't home. i am so grateful that we were home when this happened and that he will be all better soon. here's a pic of our brave boy.

he is still on lots of medication to control the pain but he was brave and stood up strong when he saw donnie. we were so sad to have to leave him there, but so happy to hear that he is doing great this morning!
poor little buddy has a 4 inch incision on his belly. i don't know how much more my heart can take right now :(
