adoption?

unconditional love could be one of the sweetest things about children. i was out of town for work this week. when i returned, emily told me that her grandma and grandpa came to visit her for the day. as in my sister's in-laws. or aaron's grandma and grandpa. they drove in from austin for the day just to spend 3 hours with their grandson. they absolutely dote on aaron. and since em's always with aaron during the week, they dote on her too! i am so grateful that they love our little girl as if she were their own granddaughter. em used to call todd's mom hg, short for honorary grandma. after all, she spent 5 weeks with em when em was just a baby. hg pretty much moved down here for 5 weeks to help my sister transition back to work taking care of aaron and getting used to our nanny. emily loves her hg very much. so much, in fact, that she's adopted hg and and aaron's grandpa as her own. she now calls them "my grandma" and "my grandpa. not aaron's." they made her puppy dogs and mariposas out of pipe cleaners and she has not put them down. she even made up a song for the puppy dogs. if you've seen barney, you'll know the "baby bop hop" song. well, em changed the words around and it's now the "puppy dog hop." (really, i am so impressed).

anyway, just wanted to post this so that i would never forget just how easy it is for children to love others. and how grateful i am for people who love my little girl so unconditionally even though they don't have to...nevermind that those capable of resisting loving her are probably awful people anyway. (so "have to" isn't my ideal choice of words, but i couldn't think of anything else. you know what i mean, don't you?)
