for mommy

it's been a while since i've had to travel for work.  things have changed since my last big work trip, which was last summer when i was still at the firm. my baby girl is a big girl, and boy does she know when her mama is not home.  i told her the week before that i'd be gone overnight, and i'm pretty sure she cried a little bit each day leading up to my "trip."  the day before i left, her teacher found her quietly crying during nap time.  when asked what was wrong, em told her that mommy had to go out of town the next day.  oh, my sweet girl.  while i was gone, this is what she did at school.  her teacher texted me the photo, along with this caption: "it says em and then mommy.  it has lots of pink because it's her favorite color."  (btw, sometimes she gets a little lazy and doesn't want to write her whole name.  she thinks it's so cool that her nickname has only 2 letters and she'll always ask me if it's "okay" if she just writes "em.")  when i returned the next evening, she gave me this sweet heart and a book that she had been working on.  it was full of her drawings and some pictures she had colored.  i love that she was thinking of me as much as i was thinking of her!
