we've been preparing emily for her first day of (real) school since march! this is her first time to be apart from her cousin and best bud aaron. (that part might be harder on me than it is on her...at least in the long run. i just love seeing his smiling face when i drop off or pick up). the other thing that had me concerned was uniforms! silly, i know. but our little girl likes clothes. and shoes. and she likes to pick it out herself each day. surprising me, she was excited about her uniform and sparkly shoes.
at her class visit last week, she was given a special bedtime poem and an envelope of magic dust/sprinkles for sunday night. she couldn't hardly wait for sunday night. the sprinkles were to help ease her worries and help her sleep. she put her hand under pillow to check for the sprinkles many times until she fell fast asleep.
so without further delay, here are few of the pictures i took this morning :)
do you love the sticker on my arm? would have been better if she used it as a bandaid to cover up my bruise.
magic dust!
we had homework for the first day of school. now this may surprise you, but emily is kind of a genius. can you see that she alternated orange and black when she traced tiger? and her favorite food is pizza. at first she wanted to put cha (a vietnamese ham), but (1) no one would know what that was and (2) i don't know how to spell it. (i just guessed above). anyway, for the pizza, she told me that she liked pepperoni and cheese and proceeded to trace the letters in yellow and then put red dots on top. i thought she was being silly and just putting dots because that's what i did first. she informed me the dots were the pepperoni. told ya- she's a genius.
she told me what to write here, and then signed her name and wrote "i love school". i would have loved for her to write everything herself, but i'm afraid we don't have enough power over her to make her do that, lol.
so excited!
i caved and bought her those sparkly sneakers. it was the only way i could get her to wear sneakers!
silly girl!
my big girl :)
posing, of course
another pose
it was so humid and hot this morning that my lens fogged up. ew.

breakfast on the go. 8 am start time is going to be hard for us!
caroline was already at school posing for pictures. perfect.
her mom always says they look like twins and i can't help but agree that they resemble each other. such cute girls.
look who else arrived when we did...talulah! since she is in pre-k, she started last week. she's going to show emily the ropes this week.
"how about we run inside?!"
and off she went. donnie did see her stop dead in her tracks once she got to the hallway where her classroom was, though. but only because there was a new lady standing there who shook each child's hand as they came through. they will do this every morning. i think it's such a neat thing. (we really thought em would start crying at that point, but she surprised us and kept walking. whew!)
she did not even look back :(. she went right in and waited for her teacher to greet her.

i made her come back to the "hug box" and give me a kiss. this picture reminds me so much of last year's first day of school pic.

look at her twirling her skirt. i cannot get enough.

even though we aren't supposed to, i sort of lingered in the hug box outside since there weren't any other kids waiting to come at the time. her teacher saw me and called emily over for one last picture. i am so glad she did. i really think that em has awesome teachers this year. this is mrs. moak. she is the assistant teacher. and guess what? she used to be a lawyer. (sadly, mrs. steele, em's other teacher won't be here until wednesday due to a death in the family. so we look forward to our first day with her later this week).
i feel like this morning flew by. i looked at donnie as i turned around after i took this last picture and thought, "what just happened?" then i blinked away some tears. did my baby girl just run into school and straight to her class without looking back? yes. yes she did.
i don't know about emily, but i cannot wait until pick up this afternoon. i told her we could do something special, and she told me she wanted to come home and play duck, duck, goose with me...since she's my goose. ahh, my heart.
[one last thing- i still have some posts from our mini vacays that i need to post, so check back later this week and be sure to scroll down since i always try to post in chronological order!]
