emily is 34 months old!

showing off her "underpants"

emily is still changing so much each month, leaving donnie and i with our jaws dropping much of the time. it's not so much the things she does, but the things she understands and says. mostly, we just find ourselves smiling more, and thus, getting more wrinkles. :) (see, I even smile when I write).

so here's what stinky has been up to:

  • "my grandma and grandpa have cows. aaron not have a grandma and grandpa, only an ong and ba." except the grandma and grandpa with the cows? those are aaron's.
  • she gives everyone a title- auntie, grandma, grandpa, cousin, friend. she really understands family, too, and never forgets about her " little doggie."
  • she told her auntie that "my mommy loves jack in the box...and I am going to story time live but deeyan cannot go." (i have maybe had jack in the box once her entire life. and deeyan? she now says dylan correctly. so sad).
  • she asked auntie for a hamburger as if it was no big deal. i still can't get over that. she did say that she liked aaron's curly fries best, though.
  • she enjoys tracing letters and numbers. her teachers told me she has "beautiful handwriting." well of course she does.
  • when i tell her she needs to eat or go change her diaper*, she says "no, i'm FINE!"
  • i didn't know she knew "one, two buckle my shoe," but she does. when we got to the end of the song, you know, where you say, "nine, ten, let's do it again", she laughed, put her hands under her armpits, and yelled, " you're a big fat hen!" then she fake laughed.
  • she has imaginary friends. the one that visits the most is mary craffin. she has dinner with us and goes to disney on ice, too. i just realized this weekend that maybe her name is mary catherine, not mary craffin. haha.
  • "mommy sit still and not cry. it's not a big deal." (putting a bandaid on my non-existant booboo).
  • one evening, i looked into the living room and asked if she would help me clean up her toys. "yes. (looks towards living room). oh...but, that's not a toy. that's my doggie." (tanner was sprawled out in the middle of the room).
  • she likes to say "haha!" but the tone is more like "in your face, sucka!" she says it when she finds something that we've hidden (like candy or lipgloss) or when she does something that she knows she isn't supposed to (like climb on the armrests of the couch or swing between the 2 couches).
  • she has a lot of love for things. me: "em, do you want to go to target with me?" em: "but i want to go to the galleria." "why?" "because i love the galleria."
  • we went to marshalls with my parents one morning after ballet so she could pick out yet another baby doll. the thing with the babies at marshalls is that they are, well, ugly. she picked out this particularly creepy looking doll that day. you could feed her and she literally would get a dirty diaper. gross. but em carried that doll all around marshalls going back and forth between me and her ba asking for it. the doll also has some huge eyes (read, creepy). i told her she'd have to put the doll back and we would find another one. "but i LOVE her!" oy. so the doll came home with us. em later heard me talking to donnie about the weird looking doll. later, em asked me where her baby was. uh, which one? "the weird one with the big eyes. i will name her moco" (which is spanish for boogers. lovely).
  • she still speaks a lot of spanish at home. i told her, "em, you can only have one, okay?" em: "but i want uno mas!"
  • one morning she woke up and told me "it's frio in here" and held her hands/fists up like she was shivering. "what?" "that hows you say cold in panish."
  • she loves spelling things and asking how to spell things. she often asks me to "write [her] name. e-m-i-l-y. first you write an e, mommy. then m- like your name. i-l-y." and she will spell the letters out sooo fast.
  • she mimics what i tell her a lot. she'll tell me, "i won't go potty in my underpants because they will get wet. we don't want that." she'll say "we don't want that" about a lot of stuff. it makes me smile. when she uses the potty, she will flush then put the lid down. and every time, she'll say, "i'm gonna hurt my thumb if i do that." so funny
  • *speaking of the potty. praises must be sent up because this weekend, she convinced me to let her wear her "underpants." she's had them for a long while, but really, she's only been going potty at school and she's refused to go at home for us. so we sort of stopped trying to force it at home. but this weekend, i let her wear them at home and in 6 hours, she had only 1 accident. she has been soooo great about going since then. i guess the underpants were the secret. she has even told donnie, "daddy, i'm about to go potty in my underpants." then she'll take off running to the bathroom. as of day 4, she no longer wants our help other than to ask "can you please turn on the light?", then she'll tell us to go away. when we peek at her, she is ALWAYS sitting there with her head in her hands, resting her elbows on her lap. but it's not just that. her expression is like, "this is for ameteurs. so boring." it is hilarious. she is so proud of herself. each time she goes, she'll look up as if she just discovered something or did something great. we still wear a pull up to school, sleep, and to poop, but i'll take it! she loves waking up each morning and picking out her underpants. please cross your fingers that this doesn't get old to her.
  • "underpants are more soft than pull ups and diapers. i like them better."
  • pull ups. before the underpants, she was obsessed with one design of 4 or 5 in the pack of pull ups. her friend maddie at school wears them. so em calls the beauty diaper (with chip on the back) her maddie pull ups. and she would only wear those. it was awful.
  • omg, they are practicing for their christmas play already. emily came home singing (with motions and all) away in a manger, go tell it on the mountain, and this little light of mine. it is maybe the cutest thing i've ever seen.
  • she hates to have her hair tucked behind her ears. and she doesn't want to get her haircut.
  • she asked me "mommy, do you want a sassoo?" a what? "a sassoo. on your arm." oooh, a tattoo. and then she proceeded to draw on me with a crayon. perfect.
  • she has gotten great using the word please. "can you stop?" if i don't, "can you please stop?" but she'll also use please the first time, too, like when she's asking for juice or water.
  • she has a new fondness for belle from beauty and the beast. however, she calls her beauty. the disney store went from being the woody and buzz store, to the tinkerbell store, to the beauty store. it's her second favorite thing about the galleria (after the train). she knows all the characters in the movie and calls lumiere seemiere.
  • she still loves tanner so much. she now has figured out that if she wants to squeeze him, she'll have to pick when i get home, because he is always in my lap for the first couple of minutes after i walk through the door. this is when she will pet, hug, and kiss him. most of the time, he tolerates it well.
  • she pretends to give kisses like tanner, too, and will stick out her tongue and pretend to lick you.
  • she climbs on our backs when we least expect it and will say, "giddy up horsie!"
  • she is obsessed with the ipad still, but now she only wants to watch caillou on it.
  • she has given our cars names- d's is bevo because he has a longhorn emblem on the back. and mine is beep beep because that's the sound the alarm makes when we lock/unlock it.
  • ong's head is starting to show some peach fuzz (yay!) and em studied it from a far and said, "ong. your hair is grey. but mine is brown."
  • she is wearing a lot of size 3t clothes, especially pants, size 8.5-9 shoe, size 5 diaper or 3t pull ups, and weighs about 34 lbs.
  • here is a video of her performing away in a manger. please excuse her chomping. she got a tootsie roll for using the potty.

more pictures to come!
